Wow! It’s New Year’s Eve! 2013 is coming to an end and 2014 is staring us down! Resolutions are being made across the globe. We all know the drill… people are losing weight, changing their diet, starting new hobbies, finding Mr. or Mrs. Right; the lists go on and on but let me change the game up for you this year! Let’s all focus on committing to ONE specific thing this year… PURPOSE! It’s the one thing that will bring incomparable joy and satisfaction. I guarantee if we all focus on that one word, all the other things we desire will fall into place in due season. I literally stumbled upon a passage the other day that planted firmly in my spirit. It speaks volumes to the importance of TODAY and the gift that each day is to each one of us. It’s my hope that you’ll meditate on it and see the big picture.
Hebrews 4 1-3 For as long, then, as that promise of resting in him pulls us on to God’s goal for us, we need to be careful that we’re not disqualified. We received the same promises as those people in the wilderness, but the promises didn’t do them a bit of good because they didn’t receive the promises with faith. If we believe, though, we’ll experience that state of resting.
God doesn’t change. His Word remains true and He’s not going back on it. His promises are our birthright. When we received Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives we became qualified for the promises. However, just because we’re qualified doesn’t mean we’ll finish the race. Although our God is undefeated, we can suffer defeat by our lack of faith. It’s only by faith that we’ll walk in true victory and that victory is where we find rest. Don’t think of rest as being a time where we kick our feet up and relax… and it’s not just in death that we rest. We rest when we are walking in our divine calling because it’s what we were born to do. We’re operating in the grace of God so what we do will no longer feel like work, it will energize us and cause us to experience a state of peace like never before. The peace of knowing we are pleasing God with our works is the best kind of rest.
8-11 And so this is still a live promise. It wasn’t canceled at the time of Joshua; otherwise, God wouldn’t keep renewing the appointment for “today.” The promise of “arrival” and “rest” is still there for God’s people. God himself is at rest. And at the end of the journey we’ll surely rest with God. So let’s keep at it and eventually arrive at the place of rest, not drop out through some sort of disobedience.
Haven’t we done it our way long enough? Are you tired of trying to make things work by your own might? Are you finally willing to surrender to God and let Him guide your footsteps this coming year? Disobedience has left us stranded far too many times trying to find our way back to the plan and purpose God has predestined. Let’s not go another day weary. We don’t have to! Allow God to be your strength and see how far you get this year!
12-13 God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.
We aren’t puppets. We have been granted free will which means we can either choose to accept or reject God. Even if we reject Him, His plans for us never change. We will never find satisfaction or fulfillment in a life outside of God. Anything we accomplish on our own, outside of his will, will offer temporary pleasure. That’s what is meant by “can’t get away from it.” God can’t force us to do anything. However, even if we choose to go our own way, we’ll never erase the plans God has for us.
14-16 Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.
In 2014 let’s not turn our backs on Him. Let’s acknowledge Him in all His ways and accept all that He has for us. We don’t have to go this world alone. Life is no cake walk but with God’s help, we can overcome every obstacle. So trash the resolutions this year and focus on relationship. A relationship with God. Your purpose awaits!
Happy Tuesday and Happy New Year!!!!
Love, Bianca
