STOP PLANNING!

Yeah, you read the title right and no I haven’t lost my mind. This message is coming from the ULTIMATE planner. I plan EVERYTHING! I like to know what, when, how, and why for anything that I get involved in. I’m from the school of “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” So let me explain why I can still hold true to the notion of “Stop Planning” even when I have intentions of continuing to plan.

ERICTHOMASLast night I listened in to the Mentor Mondays’ Spreecast with Paul Brunson. He’s one of my favorite people to follow on social media and I’ve been fortunate enough to have met him a few times since he also lives in DC. The guest for the evening was a man named Eric Thomas who is a world renowned motivational speaker. Once a 16 year old high school drop out who later received his GED and is currently working towards his PHD! I love stories like that!

Just to be clear, prior to last night’s spreecast I’d only seen one of his YouTube videos and although I thought he was excellent at public speaking, I didn’t latch on to him. His delivery is a little abrupt and in your face and it seemed like his messaging was geared to a younger, more adolescent crowd. Indeed, his messaging is focused on urban youth to help them see the bigger picture and believe that they can be more than what their environment says they can. I honor him for that. But last night, he was speaking to grown men and women. Many of us educated, professional, and somewhat established in careers. None of that mattered. He had a solid word for us. Here’s a few nuggets that stood out: Continue reading “STOP PLANNING!”

Real Comfort Food

sunset-straight-road-1920x1080In the perfect world, I would get up every morning excited about the day that lies ahead, especially on Tuesday when it’s time to release my blog post. The truth is, although I’m grateful for every day that God blesses me with, I’m not always all that thrilled about what the day brings. For the past few weeks, I’ve had quite a few down moments. Moments when I wish I was under an invisible cloak so that I wouldn’t have to deal with anyone or anything until I could get it together. Of course, that wish never came true and when I thought I was about to completely lose it, I retreated to the Word. It’s a shame to admit that much of what I was going through was because I was focusing on all the things that were not going in my favor. Instead of praying, I was worrying… and worrying a lot. Eventually I stilled my mind long enough to disappear into the pages that redefine the meaning of comfort food. Continue reading “Real Comfort Food”

Hunger Pains

Many of you know that I’m a huge supporter of DeVon Franklin. I stumbled upon him a few years ago and have followed his journey from a far. Last year, I had the honor of meeting him at The Merge Summit held in LA and to say that that moment made an imprint would be an understatement. There’s something to say about someone who you just know is unapologetically themselves. He is genuinely a kind soul with a courageous spirit and a heart for people so it’s no surprise that on this past Sunday I would tune into all 3 services at One Church International where he was the guest speaker. Yes, I watched the 9am, 11am, and 1pm!! That’s how on point he was and how hungry I am to get this thing called life right! The message was the same in all 3 services but the delivery was different. I got something different from each one and I wish I could regurgitate everything in this one article but it would be a book in itself. Instead, I’d like to do one better and share the link to the 1pm service for all of you to witness. (Click here and scroll to about 01:11:30 for the message.) Since I know that some of you won’t watch for lack of time or even lack of interest, I’ll just share a few nuggets that I believe were said directly to me! No seriously, he was all up in my life and yes I was yelling at the screen! Ha! Continue reading “Hunger Pains”

The Heavy Weight Type

workout
On the surface it’s a cute picture that makes the girls go “Awww” and the guys go….. Well I think their responses will be quite varied but that’s to be expected. What started out as a simple Instagram post morphed into something much bigger the more I studied it. The choices we make in relationships are all about our perceptions. We can look at the same set of circumstances and come away with completely different opinions based on what we’ve experienced and/or desire in the future. What do you see when you look at this photo? When I Was 7… Yesterday

1 Cor. 13:11 “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”

Number 7I never knew about her earlier life. I knew of her activism, her poems, and her infinite wisdom but yesterday was my first glance into young Maya Angelou. That is — 7 year old Maya Angelou. In one of her many interviews with Oprah Winfrey, she spoke of being raped at age 7. A few days after being released from jail, the man she accused was found dead. It was the end of his life and the end of her voice – for several years. Her 7 year old mind led her to believe that her voice was the cause of the man’s death and that if she continued to speak then more people would die. Where did she get that from? Who did she consult about those thoughts?… No one. Continue reading “When I Was 7… Yesterday”

Archives: Declaring War!

Sometimes you don’t have anything new to say that would do justice to what you’re going through. Today would be that day for me. I make a point to be happy every day my eyes open but I’d be lying to you if I didn’t say that those days haven’t been met with enormous challenges over the past few months.  I get it though. I made a decision to pursue a dream and take the limits off my life and now I’m being hit with everything the enemies got. Glad I know that everything he has can’t compare to the God I serve. I dug through my old posts dated back to March 2012 and it speaks to exactly how I feel today. No one goes through life without trials but it’s good to know that I’m on the team that always wins!  Continue reading “Archives: Declaring War!”

MAN CRUSH MOMENT (MCM)

In the midst of one of my worst weeks ever, God showed me that He was still moving on my behalf and that my purpose was not going to be sidetracked by my pain. After a few months of talks with the founder of Defined By Christ magazine, I got the email that I’d been waiting on. My first relationship article would be published the following morning! You have to understand that I was in a slump! Nothing was going right and I honestly had forgotten about all that was in the works… until that email. The connection began after posting my most viewed blog post ever titled “Wifey” a few months back. I received emails from all types of people and I was offered many opportunities. The offer from DBC magazine was one of the ones I took seriously and it has come to fruition!

Last week I posted the link to the article to my social media accounts but I wanted to make sure my loyal readers, who may not be connected to me outside of the blog, had a chance to read it. I’m humbled by opportunities that have presented themselves to me and the divine connections that I’ve made over the past few months. I don’t take this assignment lightly and I look forward to seeing what’s next! Until then, I’ll get settled in to my new role as a relationship columnist for DBC magazine!! Hope you enjoy the read…

Connect the Dots

Tomorrow marks the release of a movie I’ve been waiting on in high anticipation titled “Heaven Is For Real.” Not because of the storyline (although it is amazing) and not because of who is behind the making of it (although I am a huge supporter of DeVon Franklin’s work). It’s because it’s yet another one of the dots that connects to what I heard God call into existence 4 years ago.

DOT 1: In 2010, I created my producing firm “B.A.S.H Films” as a part of a class assignment. I loved the vision so much that I decided to make it official based on God’s promise that I would be a part of a faith based entertainment industry that will produce quality movies for mass audience appeal. Of course, it seemed completely unbelievable with the types of movies that were box office hits at the time. Let’s also be clear that I had absolutely no connections in the movie industry. All I knew was TV.

DOT 2: So naturally I questioned His promise. I developed a few things here and there but to say I was skeptical of my ability to accomplish such a thing is an understatement. Last year, I stumbled upon a promotion for an event called “The Merge Summit” which at is core is a networking platform for people who desire to merge faith and entertainment. I had no idea anything like that even existed and it was on it’s 6th year! It was a rewarding experience to say the least and who did I meet as a result? … Devon Franklin. A man who I admired from afar. A man who’s book I studied almost as intently as the Bible. A man who is at the forefront of the faith and entertainment movement and a true powerhouse in the faith community. I shook hands with him, he signed my book, and I assured him that we would cross paths again!

DOT 3: The Merge Summit was like no other networking event I’ve ever encountered. Each day we started off with a worship service. One particular pastor stood out. His name was Toure’ Roberts. His words were powerful, endearing, and far from preachy. His church is based in Le Brea, LA and he is considered to be the pastor to the stars. A lot of celebrities and industry figures attend his church but that’s not what drew me to him. It was his down to earth persona. It was his ability to fly below the radar and not tout his importance in a community that is all about appearances. It was his ability to be “in” the entertainment world but not “of” it. It was his ability to lead a group of people who have the world at their fingertips but are void and hungry for the Word. It takes strong faith, not a strong man to accomplish such a feat.

DOT 4: A year later, Pastor Toure’ would release his first book “Purpose Awakening” and I would complete it in about a week. I rarely finish a book in one setting as it usually takes me a few tries to get through even a good book but this one was special.  I admire that about him so I did what anyone walking in faith would do… something completely “ridiculous!” (to the natural eye at least). I applied to serve in his ministry. Yep, that’s right. I have no LA address. No LA job. No LA connections but I reached out in faith that one day I would be able to serve.

DOT 5: Then today, I run across this article in the trades titled “Hollywood’s Growing Faith in Christian Movies.” http://variety.com/2014/film/news/sony-shows-faith-with-wide-release-for-heaven-is-for-real-1201157172/

connect-the-dots-bearWhat does this all mean? There are moments in our journey that will reveal to you God’s promises in your life. It may not all make sense on how you’ll get there but believe that His plans are clear. Take some time out today to look back over the past few months and connect your own dots. You may be sitting there waiting on confirmation that He’s already given you. As long as you know He’s on board, trust the process and keep track of those “little” things that happen throughout the weeks and months that prove to you that you’re not crazy to believe that big, supersized dream! Once all the dots are connected, the big picture of His purpose for your life will be revealed!

Judges 6:15 “Gideon said to him, “Me, my master? How and with what could I ever save Israel? Look at me. My clan’s the weakest in Manasseh and I’m the runt of the litter.” … God said to him, “I’ll be with you. Believe me, you’ll defeat Midian as one man.”

Happy Tuesday!

Love, Bianca

The Voice

Everyone says when you hear God’s voice move in the way that he instructs you to move. No hesitation. No second opinions. Just go! That sounds good in theory but lets take in to account someone who has been unsuccessful at shutting down all the other clutter that fills their thoughts. What’s the secret to extracting His voice from all other voices that fill your head with things contrary to what you believe He is telling you to do. Not all things contrary have to be bad. They can just be logical, safe, or comfortable. In other words, if you chose to follow the contrary, you wouldn’t necessarily be doing yourself or anyone else any harm… or would you?
