In May 2010, I was in a pretty bad car accident. Four of my girls and I were headed to our sister’s law school graduation when a car ran a stop sign and we hit them head on. I had the car less than 6 months and the entire front side of the car was destroyed. Now I love my car, but I love our lives much more and on that day miracles happened. The major impact was on my side and my air bag did not deploy. Now, I understand that the air bag is a safety precaution but in many instances it causes more damage than it does good.
Perfect Timing
So the last time I was here, I wrote about my drive home and how God spoke to me about being prime real estate. It was just another example of how he was using my love for shopping as a teaching tool. Well on that same ride home, He spoke again a few moments later. I guess you could say it was a lively conversation that day. I couldn’t figure a way to tie it all together so I decided to save it for the next week. Sadly, it turned into a month later but I believe the message is timeless and ironically something I needed to read for myself today! Continue reading “Perfect Timing”
No Frill, No Fuss… Just Me and Him
Okay so I was pressed to get this out before the clock striked midnight! I am positive that the storm I’m going through right now is not for my benefit but for the benefit of others. So when the option was to hibernate under the covers or write out my thoughts for my B&F family to read… you know the choice was easy! Since I’m racing against the clock, there’s no pictures, no bible quotes… just a quick story of the conversation I had with God today. Continue reading “No Frill, No Fuss… Just Me and Him”
No Comparison
You know why it’s so difficult for some people to believe in God? It’s because it’s human nature to make sense out the unknown by comparing it to something that they’ve experienced. We’ve all been told by someone that we trusted that they would come through on something and have been let down. We’ve all been made promises and had them broken. We’ve all had our heart broken and had to recover from major upsets and disappointments at the hands of one’s that we loved. So it’s natural for people to read the promises of God and be skeptical. It’s common for people to hear all of what God can and will do for them and still wonder if it will actually happen. Our minds have been trained to think “realistically.” We’ve been conditioned to prepare ourselves for things not to go our way more than we’re trained to believe that they will because we never want to be let down or disappointed. Continue reading “No Comparison”

Seeing Is “Knowing”… NOT “Believing”
Just this past week, I was having a discussion with someone about the value of church. This time I decided to do more listening than talking and I can say I was very intrigued by the points that were made. I wholeheartedly agreed with most of them, though it did not deter me from my belief that church is essential to those who desire to operate in the things of God.
The discussion was about why people attend church for years and never move on the faith that they claim to hold so dear to them. How can people be under a Word for so many years and continue to live unsatisfied with where they are in life? If you truly believe that faith is both acting and believing… why are so many of them not doing either? I went on to explain that though it may not look like they are where they should be, you have no idea how far they’ve come. One also cannot neglect the importance of free will. I don’t care how many checks people hand you, if you never cash them or make a deposit at the bank, they’re just slips of paper. The lack of action on your part doesn’t affect the value of the checks, you just won’t reap the benefit until you do your part. I could go on about the conversation but I’d rather bring light to an article that I read just a few days after that put a lot of things into perspective. God is truly always there to reaffirm what we believe, even when we least expect it.
The article comes from Essence.com by Paul Carrick Brunson, whom I’ve had the pleasure to meet. He is true example of stepping out on faith and seeing things come to pass that far outweighed the scope of his imagination. Check out his “9 Ways to Keep Believing:” Continue reading “Seeing Is “Knowing”… NOT “Believing””
Finding My Set Place: “Phil 3:17-19” – August 5, 2007
All week, it’s been on my heart to share on the topic of integrity. Yes, integrity, a word many have probably heard but few understand. It seemed like every article I read or news report I watched had me questioning how many people today truly knows what it means to live a life of integrity and the importance of it in their daily lives.
It started with an episode of “Basketball Wives LA” as I watched one of the women recall how she felt her cast mate was putting on a front and couldn’t be trusted. However, when they played her actual response to the woman in a clip, she laughed it off and played nice like there was no issue.
A few days later, I’m reading a magazine article about Ashton Kutcher’s apparent affair with a 22 year-old woman in a hotel room on his 6th year wedding anniversary. Apparently, him claiming to be separated was enough for her to jump in bed with him, yet at the end of the article she says she values marriage and would never cheat on her husband. The ignorance of the article is beyond your wildest imagination and I won’t waste time on it. I want to focus on just one of the missing ingredients in both of these stories… Integrity.
… and as God would have it designed, the journal entry where I wanted to pick up on this week would be August 5, 2007 “Walking in Confidence & Integrity.” Continue reading “Finding My Set Place: “Phil 3:17-19” – August 5, 2007″
Rocky vs. Goliath
My constant prayer is that my hearing increases so that I am better able to discern the voice of God throughout my day. Each day I want to become more and more certain of His voice until I move without any hesitation. So today, I’m doing something a little different. Why? Because God said so. TAPPING INTO THE “WHY”
So this past Saturday I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed at 6:45 a.m., dressed myself in the required business attire, and headed out the door to a mandatory ministry of helps meeting at my church. It’s only a few Saturdays out of the year that we do this but that particular Saturday was a struggle for me. Everything in me wanted to cover my head and sleep in. BUT I gave my word that I would attend so that sealed the deal for me. I knew it would be worth my time once I got there but I had no idea it would be all that it turned out to be! In three hours I came away with so much to help me grow as a person, not just a believer. It was all about how to best represent yourself as an open, approachable, and welcoming person so that you remain a gateway for building spiritual relationships. As the guest speaker spoke, I began to analyze myself and I came up with one undeniable fact… I’m none of those things!! Haha Continue reading “TAPPING INTO THE “WHY””
