PURE S.E.X

imagesIt’s taken me FOREVER to write this blog! At this point I’ve had over 7 revisions and there’s sure to be more by the time it’s posted. I thought it was writers block, which is common for me. However, I’m starting to see that I needed to read/see/hear something that would set the overall tone. I believe that happened  after watching a web video called “The Solution Summit.” A forum where people come together to discuss various topics and shed their light on their views in an unapologetic, unadulterated way. Anywho, the question was posed to a Christian on whether he believed in sex before marriage. Here’s his reply:

“My thoughts are it’s okay depending on the reasons for it. If it’s something you get into to make sure you’re getting into the right situation with somebody. But if it’s something different … if it’s a religious thing then it’s a whole other conversation to be had.” Continue reading “PURE S.E.X”

Through the Storm

I kept hearing about this amazing video swarming the internet of a man proposing to his girlfriend and marrying her on the same day. Although I’m a hopeless romantic, for some reason there was no urgency in me to watch it. However, after a close friend posted the link on Facebook, I decided to see what all the hype was about. Needless to say I was ill prepared for how truly special and spiritual their story would be. We live in the days where the word “love” is constantly abused and misused. My favorite example is “Love & Hip Hop.” It’s one of the top rated shows among African Americans and there’s absolutely nothing about the show that speaks to love. Greed? Yes. Lust? Yes. Fame? Yes. Living with your baby momma and girlfriend of over 11 years, then marrying your “side-piece” is not love. Trying to get one of your baby mommas to agree to a paternity test after fathering two children just months apart from each other is not love. But I digress. The bigger issue is that the more we misrepresent love, the harder it is for us to recognize the real thing. Ladies and gentlemen, the video you just saw is the REAL THING!

Anyone who watched this video can’t help but to feel the love…and not just between the couple. The real love story is their love for Jesus and making him the center of their love story. How can any love story be told without the One who is Love? That’s what makes the story so beautiful to me! I had all intentions to let the video speak for itself without any real commentary from me BUT I’m a writer and well, I just couldn’t help myself. Since there’s really not much I can add to make the message any more clearer, I’ll just highlight a few things I noted while watching their beautiful love story. I’m a little wierd so I pick out the subtlties in everything so bare with me :). Continue reading “Through the Storm”

Boaz vs. Bozo

Your Boaz should NOT be just about good looks, a nice smile, smooth words, nice job and car, muscular build, fashionable clothes, big connections, etc. If he does have all that, great! But that is NOT what you should be looking for.

If you want to recognize the guy that God is sending you, you must think like God. How does God choose? Let’s look at what God said to Samuel when He was selecting a king for Israel.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (I Samuel 16:7)” Nikisha Brunson urbanbushbabes.com Continue reading “Boaz vs. Bozo”

Be a Gift, Not a Prize

So I got mad the other day. The kind of mad that makes your knee bounce up and down because for some reason that seems to help you control your tongue… or is that just me? Regardless, just know that I was ready to pounce. If there’s one thing that can get me going is to see any one of my friends hurt. Well this particular night, I was hearing a dear friend of mine recant the day her heart was broken. No this wasn’t years ago, it was just a few days past. So because I have been on the recipient end of heartbreak a few times myself, I knew all too well what kind of pain she was in.  This kind of pain doesn’t subside with a bottle of Advil. You can’t just say, “Take two and call me in the morning.”

Instead, I encouraged her to not blame herself… to see the guy for who he really is and not who she wants him to be. I encouraged her to be true to her feelings and not to feel guilty about being angry and expressing that anger responsibly. I told her she was worth more than what she was given and that a guy that truly cared about her as a friend would have never treated her that way. All of those things were true to my heart but it wasn’t until I was driving home that God gave me the true revelation of what many women have failed to grasp. I heard, “Don’t treat yourself like a prize when you are a gift.” Continue reading “Be a Gift, Not a Prize”

The Best Sex of Your Life

Don’t be alarmed by the title, this is real BOLD and FABULOUS talk!! I had something totally different to share today but after reading an article in the Washington Post this week, I felt compelled to share with our readers.

My desire is that this post will bring hope to women and MEN, young and OLD, who know their worth, are waiting patiently, and keeping themselves to themselves until marriage. And I’m not talking to virgins only! Let’s remember… 2 Cor. 5:17 reads, “Any man that be in Christ is a new creature. Old things have past away. Behold all things are new.” It’s not old fashion, it’s not impossible, and it’s never too late no matter what path you’ve taken in the past! Continue reading “The Best Sex of Your Life”

KNOW YOUR WORTH

One of the reasons I enjoy sharing with you all every week is because I never feel pressure to act like I have all the answers. I probably have more questions than anything and each day I learn something new about myself. The best teachers are the random people that I interact with on a weekly basis. This week in particular it seemed that everyone wanted to know the same thing… “Why aren’t you married yet?” The guy at church, an old high school classmate, and a childhood friend to name a few and they all gave me that look to say, “What’s wrong with you?” I swore if one more person grabbed my ring finger looking for a rock I thought I would scream! I wanted to yell, “I’M GOOD!!” Instead, I politely smiled and said, “Not yet.” Trust me, no one is more excited to meet the future Mr. Ashton (lol, j/k) than me but I’m trying to enjoy the season I’m in now! And that is where many of us, especially women, miss it! When I meet him trust me the world will know! Continue reading “KNOW YOUR WORTH”
