Simple Humanity

I really shouldn’t be surprised but I am! I decided at the last minute to reschedule my blogs so that I could repost an older piece that would speak to the legacy of Nelson Mandela. I decided on “Simple Humanity” only to see that the original version was posted almost an exact year ago to date. I posted this last year on 12/11/12. How amazing that it would be so fitting a year later. No, it doesn’t speak to Nelson Mandela directly, but it speaks to everything he stood for and the legacy he left to the world. We honor you Mandela and we’re grateful for your long life of sacrifice, service, and leadership.

At 6:00 this evening, I still wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to share today. I almost thought I would skip this week. That was until I ran into a familiar friend. A friend that may not even remember me or the day we crossed paths. Last year, I wrote a blog about a woman name Elizabeth. A fragile, elderly woman who I met on her way home. Well, as I was rushing off to an event this evening, I caught a glimpse of her… in the same long trench coat, hunched over, juggling the bags in both her hands. I said aloud,  “Elizabeth!!” She couldn’t hear me; my windows were up. She couldn’t see me because we were on opposite sides of the street. I thought about trying to pull over to wait for her but wasn’t sure if I would scare her. I mean it has been ages since our paths crossed and though I gave her my contact to reach out if she ever needed a ride anywhere she had not taken me up on the offer.

The Scenic Route

clockI have to admit, I’m a stickler for being on time. Aside from those types of events that lend themselves to being “fashionably late,” I’m all about early arrival. If I have to rely on directions to get somewhere on time, I need them to be accurate and precise so there’s no way for me to possibly get lost. If someone wants to give me details about nice places I could see along the way, I’m not interested. Tell me how to get to my set destination please… that’s all. I have somewhere I have to be and I need to know EXACTLY how to get there. Precision is key. Of course, if I’m on vacation or having a leisurely day, I’m much more relaxed and willing to take in the experience. Making an appointment or special event is totally different. Spoon Fed

Jer. 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

If I could put my gratefulness into words, it would take me years to write it all down. God has a way of revealing just enough of His plan, His purpose, and His love so that we can recognize and give more of ourselves to Him daily. The more I spend time with Him, the more He spoon feeds me His wisdom. I sat at home and marveled at how far God has brought me in just a few short months. I’ve endured tests and trials that could have wiped me out if I had not had a relationship with God the Almighty. Continue reading “Spoon Fed”

Define What YOU Want!

It’s often so easy for us to say we want a better paying job, a husband, a wife, our own business, etc but how often do we set aside time to clearly define those things. As usual, I’ll use myself as an example. Since I began my career, I knew I wanted to be a TV producer. I’ve always been a visual person with tons of creative ideas and opinions on what I would love to see on screen. I jumped into my career the first chance I got and went with the flow. I wasn’t quite in the position I dreamed of but I was happy to be in my field and getting paid decent for it. The years passed and I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t progressing in the areas I wanted to be. Each day became more difficult and I couldn’t see an end to the tunnel. It wasn’t until I heard the words of a man who has made such an extraordinary impact on my life that I was able to see passed the situation. My pastor once said, “The power to define is the power to fulfill. You can’t fulfill what you are unable to define.” Continue reading “Define What YOU Want!”

Love & Peace In Spite Of…

In life, we are challenged to co-exist with all different types of people with varying personalities, inhabitations, and belief systems. The battle I face, as do many “practicing” Christians, is loving them in spite of. One of my biggest challenges is accepting that God is pushing me to the forefront to share my life and my heart with others. Have you ever tried to rebuke something that you know was of God?? I know it’s silly when you know that God’s Word is exactly what you want to hear, but I have to say that the natural part of me can be so stubborn. If I did not have the revelation that I have of God’s love, I would be content in my ways. However, Continue reading “Love & Peace In Spite Of…”

My Distribution Channel….

I have been awaiting this blog entry ever since last week when it was announced that the daughter of Laurence Fishburne, Montana Fishburne,  wanted to release a sex tape and enter into the world of porn after seeing what a sex tape did for Kim Kardashian’s career!! I was so disgusted by the reality of the situation. It didn’t matter to me that she had a famous last name or that her father is a well known actor. The media puts way too much emphasis on those aspects which mean absolutely nothing. She’s human. Her dad is human… and if pop culture teaches us anything, it’s not to hold stars on pedestals and think that because they live luxurious lifestyles that they aren’t subjected to the same temptations as the normal 18 year old girl looking for acceptance in all the wrong places.

How many of us were “Montanas?” … craving the limelight, idolizing the rich and fabulous, yearning for attention, or lacking self love. Now, most of us may not have gone to the extreme of entering into the porn industry but most of us have experienced those feelings. It’s because of her story and maybe yours that motivate me to use my life and talents as a distribution channel. Continue reading “My Distribution Channel….”

My Journey… His Plan.

This is my journey … my life … my words … HIS plan.

For the first time ever, I’m writing to the world unknown and all I can do is laugh and think about how God can set you up to do things you would never imagine yourself doing. See, many of you don’t know me and honestly if it was MY plan, you may have never known me. Can I just be real with you?

I am possibly one of the most private people you could ever meet. I prided myself on keeping my business to myself. I never wanted anyone to know my struggles, my pain, my fears… really anything that left me in a state of vulnerability. In the same token, I never sought to unveil the business of others either. I’m from the school of “You do you… I do me… and we can all live happy.” Well, that was until I decided to enroll in the school of “living on purpose.” How many of you all know that it is a process?!

Part of every Christian’s purpose is to be a light unto the world and win souls unto the body of Christ. How can I do that, if I’m content in living only for myself?

[Matthew 5:14 (Amplified) … “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”]

In many ways, it was a way to not be held accountable. I could fit in at any setting because people never really knew all of what I stood for or who God was molding me to be. I was completely comfortable with keeping my spirituality personal between me and God… and let’s be real, it was also a safeguard in the slight chance that I would have an “ungodly” moment so that no one would be appalled or judgmental of my behavior. There’s nothing BOLD about that lifestyle. But God!!… He is not like man, He never leaves you nor forsakes you. I got a chance to get it right and this time you can witness the journey.
