I Need You, You Need Me

There’s a song that we sing sometimes at my church where we join hands as a family and sing “I need you… you need me. We’re all a part of God’s body. Stand with me. Agree with me. We’re all a part of God’s family.” I thought of this song as I was reading the devotion for Day 15 of my fast. We sing it but do we truly believe it? There are things that happen in life inside and outside of church that have caused us to harden our hearts to people. I know that I have fell victim to the “All I need in life is Jesus” mentality and although He is the most essential part of my life, I’ve matured in knowing that I need others as well. God is people minded. He values community and unions, hence the significance of marriage.

In this month’s issue of Essence, there’s a great article about Steve and Marjorie Harvey. Now, I know some people may have some hang ups about the advice that Steve offers but there were some points made in the article that made me appreciate the couple for their commitment to each other. Boaz vs. Bozo

Your Boaz should NOT be just about good looks, a nice smile, smooth words, nice job and car, muscular build, fashionable clothes, big connections, etc. If he does have all that, great! But that is NOT what you should be looking for.

If you want to recognize the guy that God is sending you, you must think like God. How does God choose? Let’s look at what God said to Samuel when He was selecting a king for Israel.

In the Midst of Filth… SHINE!

Since I adopted my dog Milo, my mornings run like clock work. I get up to an erratic, jumpy pup, throw on my sweats, and off for a walk we go. I used to be the type that hated early mornings. Honestly, I’m still not a fan but what I can appreciate now is that I have so much more time before I have to officially start my day. I used to wake up in just enough time to shower, dress, and maybe grab a glass of OJ. Now, I have at least an hour of leisure time to get myself ready and equipped for the day ahead. Things Happen

In May 2010, I was in a pretty bad car accident. Four of my girls and I were headed to our sister’s law school graduation when a car ran a stop sign and we hit them head on. I had the car less than 6 months and the entire front side of the car was destroyed. Now I love my car, but I love our lives much more and on that day miracles happened. The major impact was on my side and my air bag did not deploy. Now, I understand that the air bag is a safety precaution but in many instances it causes more damage than it does good.images

Spoon Fed

Jer. 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

If I could put my gratefulness into words, it would take me years to write it all down. God has a way of revealing just enough of His plan, His purpose, and His love so that we can recognize and give more of ourselves to Him daily. The more I spend time with Him, the more He spoon feeds me His wisdom. I sat at home and marveled at how far God has brought me in just a few short months. The day is almost over and I’m just getting around to my weekly post (smh). My apologies for the late hour but lately I’ve been having a hard time focusing. Like many folks, I have a lot going on and some weeks I handle it better than others.
